2/21/22 - Vaccine Policy

Camp Sloane YMCA will be a vaccinated camp this summer. On the recommendation from our full-time staff, our Board of Directors has voted that all eligible overnight and day campers are required to be fully vaccinated prior to their arrival at camp.

The number one priority for us over the past two years has been to keep the Sloane community safe and the vaccine requirement is the next step in reducing the impacts of COVID-19 on our staff, campers, and families.

Part of the decision to require vaccines is in response to creating a more "normal" camp experience. We are moving ahead with plans to run an elective-based camp that will allow campers to socialize together without the need for cohorts or pods.

WHAT DOES FULLY VACCINATED MEAN?
A person is considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after completion of a two-dose mRNA series or one dose of Janssen vaccine.

As of today, for children 12 and older who have had the Pfizer mRNA series and at least 5 months have passed since the last dose, then these campers will be required to have a booster.

Please keep updated on the CDC Guidelines for Boosters over the course of the next few months.

ARE THERE ANY EXEMPTIONS?
1. Children under 5 years of age who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated.

2. Medical Exemption: must present a statement from a licensed physician along with the medical exemption certificate signed by a guardian.

3. Religious Exemption: must complete the religious exemption form and have it signed by a permitted authority OR attach to it a statement from a religious leader.

WHAT ABOUT STAFF?
Staff have been mandated to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, without exemption and will need to provide copies of their vaccination records.

TESTING
Vaccinated: All campers and staff, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to provide proof of a negative test prior to arrival at camp. Details will be sent this spring.

(Exempt) Unvaccinated: All unvaccinated campers (with a valid exemption) will need to provide evidence of negative test prior to arrival at camp. They will then be tested again at around day 5 of each session that they attend. Parents will be required to pay for this testing. Details will be sent this spring.

CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that following this announcement, some families may want to reconsider sending their children to camp for this summer. If you would like to cancel your registration because of our vaccine requirements, please send a written email request to info@campsloane.org. The deadline for any refunds is May 1st.

We appreciate your understanding and support of this new policy as we look ahead to another safe and fun summer at camp.
