Who We Hire

The Camp Sloane Culture

Camp Sloane is a beautiful place where campers and staff members not only realize their goals, but they find the confidence to be themselves and work collaboratively with others. As a member of the Sloane family, you will join a world-class team and become part of a new family. Many staff members stay connected to Sloane for the rest of their lives and many return year after year for great summers with great people.

More than just a job

Being a camp counselor is more than just “a job and a paycheck” at the end of the summer. Working with us is a tremendously rewarding and life-changing experience! You will make a positive impact on children and excel in teaching skills while developing leadership, strengthening teamwork and collaboration abilities and learning other workplace skills to help you beyond Camp Sloane.

Who is the ideal candidate?

We are looking for candidates who are adventurous, positive role models. You need to be a go-getter, roll with the punches and be flexible. Our staff needs to be willing to be their silliest self - whether that is wearing a silly costume for an evening program or singing a zany song at the opening campfire. You need to be able to put others' needs in front of your own and you need to work collaboratively and for the good of everyone. Future staff needs to love working outside, be comfortable in a rustic setting and be willing to be a little vulnerable.

And, obviously, you need to love working kids! Because at the end of a long, tiring day in the sun, you’ll be sitting around a campfire eating s’mores with your campers, teaching them ‘never-tell riddles’ and you need to feel that that is worth everything!

What are your expected responsibilities?

Counselors have two very important roles at camp - tent counselor and activity specialist. You’ll live in a tent with 5-7 campers and maybe 1 co-counselor. Your job is keeping campers safe and healthy, serving as a positive role model, helping campers learn and grow, cultivating friendships and belonging, and making sure everyone has fun. You will have support from your village director and veteran staff.

The other part of your day is spent as an activity specialist. Check out our activities to see which area fits your qualifications. You’ll work with other staff who share your activity specialty, under the guidance of an activity director. They will help you draw on your own experiences, as well as teach you new skills, that will enable you to facilitate classes successfully.
