Leadership Programs

NEW FOR 2018: W.I.L.D. Camp (rising 9th, 10th and 11 graders)

Get ready to be wild! Join us for this action-packed two-week session of high adventure and lifelong friendships. We've taken Wilderness, Inclusion, Leadership and Development to the max to help shape more confident and capable teenagers. Campers will experience our popular adventure activities with a whole new spin as we bike, climb, paddle and hike our way around the Berkshire Mountains. W.I.L.D. camp culminates in a 4-night backpacking trip where campers will hike, camp and grow together as they bond over campfire meals and starry nights. There are only 8 spots, so don't miss out!

*This program can be joined with a LEAD I or LEAD II session.

L.E.A.D. I and L.E.A.D. II

L.E.A.D. I (Rising 10th graders) is a TWO-WEEK EXPERIENCE that involves a significant amount of individual and group leadership programming for LEAD campers, as well as the fun of traditional camp. There are no prerequisites for the LEAD I program.

L.E.A.D. II (Rising 11th graders) is a FOUR-WEEK EXPERIENCE for campers who have successfully completed their LEAD I program. You must re-apply for the LEAD II program, as there is no guarantee of acceptance just for completing LEAD I. The first two weeks of LEAD II are spent as a group, further developing leadership skills and working on a community service project. The second two weeks are spent learning to assist and shadow activities and completing an in-tent experience, living with younger resident campers as an assistant to an experienced, adult counselor. Only graduates of the LEAD II program are eligible to apply for a Junior Counselor position.

How to Apply

Our LEAD programs are selective and application-based. LEAD is designed around the camper who truly wants to develop their “leader within”, as well as filling an increasingly important role as a leader in our Camp Family. For those that desire these goals, the LEAD program can be a significant milestone on the path from child to young adult.

  1. Read through the LEAD Info Packet and complete the online application form. Remember, you are APPLYING for this program and your spot is not guaranteed until you are accepted. As part of the application, you will be asked to include contact information for at least two references. They will be sent an online reference form to fill out. We can not consider your application until both reference letters are filled out and returned.
  2. LEAD I applications are due by December 1 and LEAD II applications are due by January 1. If we receive your application after the due date and there are still spaces available, your application may be considered on a rolling basis.
  3. Once your application is received you will be contacted regarding any next steps and your acceptance into the program. There is an interview portion as part of the LEAD II and we will schedule that with you once we receive your full application.

Learn, Experience, Act, Develop

  • Leadership Training: At each step, campers are given both theory and practice to help build their skills as leaders.
  • Camper Participation: Campers in both LEAD I and LEAD II programs attend activity areas to participate and lead younger campers. There are also a number of activities for just their program, including a number of off-site trips.
  • Service Learning: In keeping with our camp motto, “others”, each program participates in different off-site and on-site service projects each summer.
  • Traditions: You're not just a participant at camp anymore. Now you get to lead and carry-on some of our most beloved traditions.
  • Lifelong Friendships: The LEAD bond is one that can not be broken. You will walk away with memories and relationships that you will never forget.
  • Interest in Working at Camp: If you are interested in being a Junior Counselor or working at Camp Sloane, you must complete the LEAD program.
