We are in-tents!

Our tents make us one of the most unique YMCA camps in the country. Living in our platform tents gives our campers and staff a true camp experience. The tents are a big part of what makes Camp Sloane YMCA the best!

Unplug to Connect

Our campers are tech-free and unplugged during their time at camp. Going screen-free allows them to connect to each other, the environment around them and, of course, to the lovely role models that we hire.

Location, Location, Location!

Camp Sloane YMCA is located in one of the most scenic areas in southern New England, on a secluded, safe 270-acre property near the Appalachian Trail. This is the region other camps travel to for outdoor activities! We are also only two hours from New York City, which is where a lot of our campers come from.

Life Experience

There are many opportunities to advance your skills through certifications and trainings provided at no cost to you. For employees pursuing careers in education, social work, recreation, etc. there is no other place where you will gain as many contact hours with children.

Staff Positions & Eligibility

Junior Counselor: You may only apply to be a Junior Counselor if you have completed the LEAD II program as a camper at Camp Sloane. Both the LEAD programs and the Junior Counselor program are extremely competitive as we only have limited spaces for each. Applying as early as the end of the previous camp season is recommended. [2015 Dates: 6/28 — 8/15]

Camp Counselor: We look to hire Camp Counselors who have completed at least one year of post-high school experience. College experience is preferred but if you can show you have skills you can apply to working at camp that you have developed through other experiences such as work or travel we are happy to hear from you. You must demonstrate a passion for working with children, and a commitment to helping them grow and develop a positive sense of self and character. [2015 Dates: 6/20-8/22]

Village/Activity Head: Every living area and activity area has a supervisor assigned to manage and organize it's day-to-day operation. Village and Activity Heads support and coach counselors and campers at all times and are exemplary role models. They should be over 21 years old and have previous camp or management experience. 

Driver/Transportation Director: Our Camp Driver is responsible for coordinating all staff and camper travel. This supervisory position involves good organizational skills, a clean driving record and you must be at least 21+.

Camp Nurse: We have residential and per diem opportunities for Registered Nurses in our modern Health Lodge facility. Nurses must be registered in the state of Connecticut and provide valid certificates and licenses. We pay extremely competitive rates, and offer free camp for any dependents. Office Staff:  Work with our business manager answering phones, administering camper and staff information and running our camp store. Our busy and dynamic office is the front line in providing a-class customer service to the parents of our campers. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and camp registration software is preferred as well as experience with answering phones and customer service skills.

Maintenance Staff: Our Maintenance staff keep the heart of our camp beating by keeping everything in working order, building new things, managing the grounds and keeping all facilities clean. Our experienced year round Facilities Director and Caretaker will work with you and help you grow as an individual and part of the Camp Sloane Maintenance team. Any labor skills and driving license preferred, commitment and passion for hard work required. 

Kitchen Staff: Keeping our campers and staff fed each day is no mean feat. Our dynamic kitchen staff work with our professional food service to provide high quality and nutritious foods at every meal. Experience in the food service industry preferred.
