Session 2 kicked off with an awesome Opening Campfire, with all of camp being entertained by our staff doing some funny skits and songs, and even the rain couldn't stop us as we finished off the campfire with a great rendition of 'Purple Soup'.
The next day was Monday Funday, and everyone spent the day dressed in their bright colors, going around camp with their Villages, learning about camp, playing games and making new friends. This was followed by the first day of activities, with campers enjoying classes such as Sailing, Archery, Improv, Camp Crafts and much more!
Overnights this year have moved to the first week of the session, so on Wednesday and Friday nights the campers went out to their spots in the woods to cook their delicious 'tin foil surprise' dinners on the campfire, followed by s'mores and a night under the stars.
On Thursday we had our fantastic Square Dance, led as usual by Cliff and Senta, who called out all the dances and helped our new campers to learn some new moves to dances such as the YMCA and The Cotton Eyed Joe.
At the end of the week, the Leads gave some incredible speeches about our core values at Chapel, before the rest of the day turned into a Carnival for our first full theme day of the summer! We had a petting zoo, a dance tent, palm reading, a haunted house, apple bobbing, cotton candy and much more for all the campers and staff to enjoy, competing for the winning prize, an ice cream party! The Dare Devils were the eventual winners, having gathered up the most points throughout the day!
For the second week of activities, the campers had the opportunity to try out some new things, with a range of different classes such as Shakespeare, Paddle Board Skills and Ultimate Frisbee on offer, as well as all the other favorites. The week went by far too quickly and all of a sudden it was time for the Performing Arts Showcase on Thursday, with all of camp getting together to watch some amazing performances from the campers who had been working hard all Session. There was singing, dancing and even a mini play from the staff.
Before we knew it, the Session had come to an end — we celebrated by getting dressed up and enjoying a delicious banquet dinner in the Dining Hall, followed by our Closing Campfire, where each village performed a skit to a 'Disney' theme before we all joined together for the closing ceremonies.
What an incredible session it's been… we can't wait for Session 3! If you're arriving tomorrow, Check In is from 1pm-3pm.. See you soon!
