Denzel Washington - Academy Award Winner & Sloane Camp Counselor

While you may know the name Denzel Washington from award winning movies such as 'Crimson Tide' or 'Malcolm X', many do not know that in 1977, Mr. Washington worked as a Camp Counselor at our very own Camp Sloane YMCA!

"Bit by the acting bug after receiving good reviews while performing in a talent show at the camp, Denzel Washington decided to return to Fordham. He enrolled at the Lincoln Center campus, studied acting, and played the title role in The Emperor Jones, by Eugene O'Neill, and Othello, by William Shakespeare, which earned him rave reviews."
