Information for Future Campers!

Hello campers my name is Andrew Keener and I am the Camp Director. You will see me around camp a lot this summer. My wife, Elsie, and I live at Camp Sloane all year long! My job is to get the activities ready, hire the counselors for summer camp and most importantly, get to know you really well. I LOVE Camp Sloane YMCA because this where I met some of my best friends. I am sure that you’ll meet some great friends too! I have also learned lots of new things at camp, and have had some of the most fun-filled days ever. Some of my favorite activities are canoeing, swinging through the trees on our high ropes course, and sitting down to good meals with my friends in the dining hall. You know, the people are what make our camp special. Take a look below at a few of the big highlights of Sloane, and I’ll see you this summer!

Friends are a HUGE part of summer camp. At Camp Sloane, kids make lots of friends and get to know a lot about how to get along with each other. Some folks are athletes, some are actors, some are artists and some are adventurous. It doesn’t matter which interest is yours because you are definitely going to find friends who have the some of the same interests. You’ll also get to make friends with kids whose interests are different than yours.

The activities at Sloane are amazing. The camp is gigantic, so there is plenty of space for everyone to do different things. At the beginning of the week, you get to choose which the activities you want to do and there are over 25 different ones to choose from! We also have great specialty camp programs like Horseback riding, waterskiing, hiking, climbing and more. No matter what you are interested in, you are bound to find something you will enjoy.

Living in a tent is the best way to experience summer camp. For one, you’ll get to know your tent mates really well because there are only five or six of them in your tent. Another great thing about tents is that you’re really camping out! Everything in the tent stays nice and clean and dry. The bathroom with showers and modern facilities is only a few steps from your tent. You will be part of a tradition of tent camping at Sloane that goes back over 80 years!

Our counselors are AMAZING at Camp Sloane! You will get to know them really well. They teach all our activities – swimming, horseback riding, crafts, theatre and everything else in between. They are also there when you need them, because your counselor will live in the tent with you. Your counselor will be there to show you the ropes and help you make friends at camp.
